How To Send Money Without Internet via UPI

UPI (Unified Payments Interface) is the most popular payment system which was launched by NPCI in 25 August, 2016. UPI allows bank account holders to send and receive money directly into their bank account through a unique ID known as UPI ID. This payment allows users to create their own unique UPI ID. Money can also be send through the QR code generated by the respective UPI app. To extend the functionality and to give mobile banking service to every common man of the country, NPCI has launched a new service which allows users to send money without internet. This new service is called *99# service.

What is *99# service

Earlier UPI was available only for smartphone devices having internet connection. But since *99# service introduced by NPCI, mobile banking is now available for devices which has no internet connection. Users can avail this service by dialing *99# on their mobile device and transact through the interactive menu displayed. Currently this service is only available for TSPs. Services included in #99# are as follows :
  1. Sending money.
  2. Receiving money.
  3. Balance enquiry.
  4. Setting or Changing UPI PIN.

This service is currently available for 83 leading banks and all GSM service providers. This service is offered in 13 different languages including Marathi, Hindi and English.

Before this we need to register ourselves for this facility.

How to register for *99# service

  1. Dial *99# from your registered mobile number.
  2. Now a pop up will be displayed on your mobile screen. Enter your bank name or IFSC code and click send.
  3. Now select your bank account.
  4. Enter the last 6 digits of your debit card to create UPI PIN.
  5. Now enter the expiry date of the debit card and click send.
  6. In the next menu you need to set up 4 or 6 digit UPI PIN and click send.

Now your upi pin has been set. Now let’s see how to send money through it.

Steps to send money without internet via UPI

  1. Enter *99# from your registered mobile number. A menu will be displayed.
  2. To send money type 1 ( because sending money is located at the first number of the menu) and click send.
  3. Now enter the upi ID or mobile number (registered for upi) and click send.
  4. Enter the amount.
  5. Now enter your upi pin to complete the transaction.

You are done. This is how you can send money to anyone having upi registered users. There are several options listed in the menu of *99# service when you dial from your phone. The options listed in the *99# service are as below:

  1. Send money.
  2. Receive money.
  3. Check balance.
  4. My profile.
  5. Pending requests.
  6. Transaction.
  7. UPI PIN.
